Stalking Case: Social media alleges BJP in Beti Padhao, “Beta” Bachao mode
Chandigarh, August 6, 2017: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is under fire on social media abuzz with widespread condemnation of alleged attempts to save the son of its Haryana unit chief who was booked for stalking the daughter of a top government officer of the state.
Expectedly, the political opponents of the BJP have flayed the alleged attempts to bail out the accused son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala by diluting charges in the FIR, the apolitical social media users too are unsparing in their condemnation of the alleged use of political influence in the case by the party in power in the state.
In the line of fire is the BJP's much publicised Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao campaign initiated by none other than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and actively pursued by Haryana's BJP government. It is being lampooned as "Beta Bachao" instead of "Beti Bachao".
The victim woman is the daughter of the senior IAS officer working as Additional Chief Secretary in Haryana, a highly significant post in the state government.
“We are thankful that she survived this ordeal. The goons had a very clear intention of abducting her…,” he said in his Facebook post. The victim lady too has stated in her status uploaded on Facebook that she “was almost kidnapped on a Chandigarh road last night.”
Both posts and statement of the woman in the media that she had recorded in her police complaint about what had happened with her have upheld in public eye the allegation of political influence at play in saving the “beta” of a powerful politician.
