Over 84% registered tax payers file returns
Punjab leads all states in filing returns under GST

Chandigarh, September 1, 2017: Punjab is leading all the states in implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in terms of maximum registrations and filing of returns under this new tax regime introduced in July this year.
This was revealed in the central report of returns filed in different states under the GST.
With this, Punjab is set to earn Rs. 573.78 crore as the State GST and Rs. 311.28 crore as iGST.
Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Commissioner Vivek Partap Singh told babushahi.com that 84.36 registered tax payers of Punjab filed their returns under the new system.
As per the provisional data of returns released by the Union government, this is the highest percentage among all the states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat is placed 16th with 63.26 percent returns among all the states. P unjab is followed by Chandigarh and West Bengal with 77.68 and 77.64 percent returns.
In Haryana, 68.52 percent tax payers have filed returns whereas Lakshdeep is at the bottom of the list with only 28.72 percent returns.
There are total 1,95,356 registered tax payers in Punjab out of which 1,64,841 filed their returns.
