Chandigarh, September 23, 2017: Acting on a directive from Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Police has set up a Special Investigative Team (SIT) under Inspector General (Crime) to probe the suspected murder of senior journalist Karanjeet Singh aka KJ and his 90-year-old mother.
Singh and his mother were found dead in their Mohali home and the police suspect they were killed for some unknown motive. The former News Editor of the Indian Express, The Times of India and the Chief News Editor of The Tribune, Singh was found murdered with his throat slit whereas his mother was suspected to have been strangulated in their Phase 3B2 home.
Taking immediate cognizance of the crime, the Chief Minister called up state DGP Suresh Arora to set up a SIT for a thorough investigation into the case. The IG (Crime), under whom the SIT will function, has been asked to ensure that all leads are probed and the culprits are identified and nabbed at the earliest.
According to an official spokesperson, the Chief Minister has also directed the police to beef up security in the area and take steps to ensure the safety and security of the ordinary citizens of the state. Captain Amarinder reiterated his commitment to ensuring that law and order is maintained in Punjab at all costs.
