Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections on November 9, announces EC
New Delhi, October 12, 2017: The Assembly elections of Himachal Pradesh will be held on November 9, 2017. The counting of votes will be done on December 18.
With this, the Model Code of Conduct in the state has come into force.
Announcing the date at a news conference here on Thursday, the three-member Election Commission (EC) headed by Chief Election Commissioner A.K. Jyoti said that for the first time, Himachal Pradesh would have 136 all-women-managed polling booths.
The VVPAT will be used with EVMs in the elections, he added.
The EC deferred announcement of Gujarat Assembly polls which was expected today.
The term of the 68-member Himachal Pradesh's Assembly ends on January 7, 2018.
The Congress is ruling the state with 36 MLAs in the Assembly against 26 of the main Opposition BJP.
Congress has already announced six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh as the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the coming elections.
