Nawanshahr, November, 21, 2017 : The relentless efforts of the Secretary School Education, Krishan Kumar for bringing in qualitative improvement in school education has started fructifying.
Under "Parho Punjab, Parhayo Punjab" , the innovative methods and techniques have been devised to make the teaching - learning process more interesting, easier as well as student friendly.
With a view to make the concepts of science and mathematics much easier to understand by mobilising students' participating in interesting activities. As many as 45 innovative activities in Mathematics and 39 in Science have been designed to develop scientific attitude among the students. The activities are simple and easy to apply in the daily life.
Divulging details, the District Education Officer, Harjit Singh and District Science Supervisor, Surinder Pal Agnihotri said that the the Science and Math teachers were imparted training as District and Block Mentors at the state level training workshops. Then, the District and Block Mentors in subjects of Science and Mathematics organised training workshops at the block ;level to impart training to the teachers. In Nawanshahr district, as many as 233 teachers including 66 Non -Science teachers and as many as 228 teachers including 35 non Mathematics teachers have been imparted training of the science and Math activities.
Hari Krishan, District Science Mentor and Jatinder Kumar, District Math Mentor said that the Block Science Mentors - Jaswinder Singh, Naresh Bhrigu, Sukhbir Singh, Lakhbir Ram, Kulbir Singh, Balbir Rahi and Block Math Mentors - Hardeep Rai, Satnam Singh, Pritpal singh, Sumit Kumar had successfully organised the training workshops. The teachers after obtaining training had been motivating the students of class 6th to 8th in their respective schools to learn these activities. " These activities have not only been proving helpful for the students to learn Science and Mathematics easily but has also been infusing confidence in them", said Hari Krishan and Jatinder Kumar while adding that it was quite evident from the enthusiasm prevailing among the students and the teachers during the Science and Mathematics Melas being organised in the different schools.
"The teaching-learning process of Science and Mathematics has become vibrant in the schools. The Melas are being witnessed by the members of the School Management Committees, prominent citizens and the parents. The students have confidently been explaining the different activities and games prepared to make the learning of different concepts of science and math easy and interesting", further said the District Mentors while adding that not only the Science and Math teachers but many Non-Science and Non- Math teachers had been contributing with dedication and zest to make the project successful. The District Mentors especially cited the worth emulating initiatives being made by Neeru Jassal, Computer Teacher( GHS, Malikpur), Assem Saxena, Hindi Teacher( GMS, Ottal), Parbhat Kiran, Punjabi Mistress( GMS, Mojowal Mazara), Sandeep Rehal, Science Mistress( GHS, Behram), Bakhshish Singh( GMS, Kahlon), Daljit Singh( GSSS, Pharala), Anita Bharti( GSSS, Chak Bilga), Sukhwinder Singh( GSSS, Rattewal).
"I was quite confused and nervous when deputed to attend the Training Workshop for Science Activities about a month ago", said Neeru Jassal, Computer Teacher, while adding that during workshop she herself had become quite enthusiastic to learn the different activities. The learning environment provided by the District and Block Mentors was quite encouraging and she had not learnt but also mobilised the students to prepare the activities. "The response of the students was also very positive. The preparations of organising Science Mela in the school on November 24 have been going on with remarkable zeal" , she added.
