Jalandhar, November 22, 2017: With a promise to meet again soon for restoring the pristine glory of the state in the fields of sports, the Punjab State Games for Boys (Under 17) concluded today afternoon.
The games in which 2400 players from across the state vied for titles in the games of Athletics, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Weight Lifting and Wrestling, saw remarkable display of sportsman spirit by the players. The budding players left an indelible imprint in the field of sports by their performances in the track as well as in the ground. The three day mega sporting extravaganza reflected the zeal of the state’s youth to excel in the field of sports and bring laurels for the state and country.
On the concluding day of this mega event, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh handed over the trophies to the winner team amidst huge applause from the players from across the state in an impressive function at Surjit Hockey Stadium. This was followed by a mesmerizing cultural event by the students of Devi Sahai Senior Secondary school, which forced the entire audience to tap their feat on popular Punjabi numbers.
Meanwhile, in his address the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that such events were the grooming ground for the youth to prepare for excelling in national and international events in the future. He said that the day was not far away when these players would play for their country in global tournaments and bring medals for it. Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh expressed hope that these tournaments would be instrumental in producing players of international repute in future.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner also underscored the need of more such tournaments for weaning out the menace of drugs from the state. He also congratulated the Sports department of the state for organizing this mega event successfully.
Earlier, the Assistant Director of the Sports Department Mr. Kartar Singh welcomed the Chief guest and other dignitaries to the event.
On the occasion District Sports Officer Mr. Vijay Kumar, District Guidance Counselor Mr. Surjit Lal, Deputy Director Youth Services Captain IS Dhami and others were also present.
