Bhathal backs Amarinder on farmer debt waiver scheme
By Vijay Pal Brar
Chandigarh, January 15, 2018: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhathal on Monday termed the implementation of farm debt waiver scheme by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh as a courageous step.
Interacting with select mediapersons at her residence here, Bhathal said that the decision of extending waiver to debt-ridden Punjab farmers was no less historic as it has been taken by Amarinder despite inheriting crippling financial crisis created by the previous Akali-BJP regime.
She lambasted the Akali-BJP leaders for indulging in politically-motivated false propaganda on the issue forgetting that they did not even think about providing relief to distressed farmer during 10-year long tenure of their government. Besides, they failed to get any relief from the friendly Modi regime during their rule in the state.
Cornering them on the religious front, the former CM alleged that they did not refrain from deriving political mileage at the religious occasion for vested political interests even as the Congress cancelled its political conferences to maintain religious sanctity of Shaheedi Jor Mel at Fatehgarh Sahib and Maghi Mela at Sri Muktsar Sahib.
When asked, Bhathal expressed willingness to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections if the Congress High Command desired so.
