Convention of Swaraj Lehar at Bhakna Bhawan Chandigarh

Swaraj Lehar, Punjab, a splinter group of Aam Admi Party (AAP) floated a new regional political party as 'Swaraj Party' in Chandigarh on Sunday. The decision to form a political party was announced in the convention of members and activists of Swaraj Lehar held in Bhakna Bhavan, Sector 29, Chandigarh.
Punjab convener of Swaraj Lehar Prof. Manjit Singh, announced formation of the Swaraj Party, as an alternate of the president political parties to drag Punjab out of Educational, economic, Social, Religion and Political crises and to give equal representation to every section of the society especially the down trodden.
Prof. Singh, however, claimed to have backing of two AAP MPs -Dr Dharamvir Gandhi and HS Khalsa- from Punjab.
He also announced 14 page constitution of the newly floated party and 23-point agenda in the gathering of activist who had come to attend the convention from across the state. A 23-point agenda was also presented on the launce of the party.
A 41-member working committee of the party, headed by Prof. Manjit Singh, was also announced. The committee members also released the party flag on the occasion.
While talking to media persons, Prof. Manjit Singh, president of Swaraj Party, claimed that his party will contest Punjab Assembly election 2017 and decision on the candidates to be fielded in how many constituencies would be taken shortly.
Prof Manjit Singh said a state working Committee of 41 members has been constituted to expand the bases of the Party at the block and village level. It is worth mentioning over here that earlier Swaraj Lehar had enrolled members from all over the state and in half of the districts already elected district committees have been constituted. The organising of district committees in the remaining 11 districts would be completed within the next two weeks.
The convention unanimously elected the office bearers of the Party as
President Prof Manjit Singh, Senior Vice President: Prof Santokh Singh Aujla, Vice President: G.B. Sahota, General Secretary: Harbans Singh Dholewal, Secretary: Gurmeet Singh Prajapat, Joint Secretary: Charanjit Singh, and Treasurer: Pritam Singh. A three member team of Manik Goyal, Parteek and Gagandeep would take care of the social media while Shamsher Singh Bharadwaj, Gurnam Singh, Hartej Singh and Kuldeep Sharma would be Spokespersons for print and electronic media.
"Dr Dharamvira Gandhi and H.S. Khalsa, both MPs sent the letters of solidarity that were read out in the convention. I D Khajuria from Jammu and member national working committee of Swaraj Abhiyan also spoke at the convention and expressed solidarity with the alternative politics. Speaking at the Convention Prof Manjit Singh, President of Swaraj Party said that it is time to come out with people centric politics, including the people from the margins. Prof Santokh Singh, senior vice president and Harbans Singh Dholewal General Secretary expressed a great hope from such politics in Punjab where people are ready to throw their weight behind the Party."
