Chandigarh, March 12, 2018: Majority of Punjab IAS officers lack proficiency in English, claimed Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
Manpreet made this startling disclosure while addressing the concluding session of the World Punjabi Conference at Chandigarh on March 11.
“Barring one or two, other IAS officers don’t know how to write correct English.They don't know how to write a letter. I get so fed up with this,” he said.
Mostly official work of the state government is done in Punjabi language and most of the files landing on the FM’s table are in this language.
Manpreet Badal rued that the kind of English used in the files related to communication with the central government was usually was not up to the mark. It is surprising to note that how they managed to clear the civil services examination, he added.
