Amritsar, March 13, 2018: During the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to Golden Temple here today, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal while submitting memorandum has asked him to decide the pending mercy petition of Balwant Singh Rajona at the earliest possible.
SGPC submitted memorandum carrying various demands including the speedy disposal of pending petition of Rajona who was awarded death penalty for assassinating the then serving chief Minister Punjab Beant Singh.
SGPC raised the demand for immediate release of Sikh prisoners lodged in the different states of the nation for the past several years.
SGPC asked Rajnath for special corridor from Dera Baba Nanak from Indian side to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib located in Pakistan. SGPC says if Corridor (bridge) is built over the Ravi River the passage from India to Pakistan would be hardly few minutes as it would give direct access to the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib where the first Sikh master Guru Nanak Dev had spent the last days of his life.
SGPC demanded status of minority for Sikhs living in the State of Jammu and Kashmir so that they could get Government jobs and benefits of other Government schemes there.
SGPC urged Singh to return ancient religious books and other relevant articles which was taken away by the Indian army during the operation Blue Star in 1984 from the Sikh Reference Library of SGPC premises.
Demand to extend relaxation was raised from GST for the buying of material for the community kitchen of Golden Temple which serve free food for more than one lakh devotees on daily basis.
