Chandigarh, March 13, 2018: Chandigarh International Airport to remain closed again from May 12 to May 31, 2018 for runway resurfacing and repair work. During this period no Civil and military flight will operate from Chandigarh.
Mr. Deepesh Joshi, Public Relation Officer, Chandigarh International Airport Limited. told babushahi.com that runway resurfacing work is being carried out by Indian Air Force (IAF).Previously it was decided to close complete runway in two phases, 1st phase was completed from 12th Feb 2018 to 26th Feb 2018 and second phase of runway closure will be from 12th may 2018 to 31st May 2018. During this period no Civil and military flight will operate from Chandigarh.
He said that there will not be any further closure after 31 May 2018.Due to runway Re carpeting / repair of runway work, strength of runway will be increased more than 75 PCN which can cater wide body aircraft from Chandigarh.
After this closure available runway length will be 9000 feet earlier it was reduced to 7200 Feet due repair work. IAF may also increase the operation hour from dawn to dusk. After completion of complete runway resurfacing work runway length will be 10400 feet.
Suneel Dutt , CEO, CHIAL said “this up gradation of runway will attract several flight operator to operate flight more than 5K Km, which would facilitate long haul flight from Chandigarh to popular destination like USA, Canada , Europe, UK etc., after the completion of Civil work on runway, lighting work for night landing facility will start and will complete timely. ”
