In Punjab, now the Rabi season is on full swing and grain markets (mandi) are booming with the farmers coming with their crop. At such time, MLA Chabbewal Dr. Raj Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vipul Ujwal visited Chabbewal Mandi to take account of the arrangements and launched a drive to facilitate farmers and arhtias of his constituency - "Mandi Vich Manji". "Manji, the traditional bed, is a symbol of resting after hard work in fields", MLA said. By "Mandi Vich Manji" his motive is to provide farmers and other visitors, the comfort and rest at Mandi.
Under this unique initiative he has spent a part of his MLA salary to provide Manjis, cold drinking water and first aid box at Mandi. One medical or para - medical staff will also be available during the daytime and an ambulance van will be stranded there 24 hrs to tackle any emergency. Dr. Raj, with help of concerned authorities, has also arranged for a fire brigade van to be stranded at Mahilpur to serve all three Mandis of Chabbewal constituency, if needed. A personal helpline no. is also given on which he can be contacted any time for any problem being faced in Mandi. Dr. Raj said that he is sure his effort will ensure a comfortable stay in Mandi to all the visitors.
Dr. Raj Kumar, while addressing the present people said, "CM Capt. Amarinder Singh is taking lot of initiatives of to again make the farming occupation a profitable one and helping farmers. This year farm loans worth Rs. 4250 cr. will be waived off. 100 cr. are kept for handling crop residue. Crop diversification too is a priority on government's agenda."
He informed that for Chabbewal constituency, loan of 1.89 cr of 357 farmers are already waived off and 30 irrigation tube wells are sanctioned.
Due to constant personal intervention of Chief Minister, Rs. 18 cr. CCL has been approved by RBI, which will facilitate timely payments to farmers for their wheat, He added. MSP of wheat is also raised to Rs. 1753/ton i.e. Rs. 110/ton higher than last year. Dr. Raj also thanked Mandi Board Chairman, S. Lal Singh, for the good management of Mandis and hassle free arrangement of wheat lifting.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vipul Ujwal issued instructions to make requisite arrangement of power, sheds for the farmers, portable water supply and equipment to monitor the quality of Wheat in each procurement centre.
During detailed interactions with the officers on the issues pertaining to procurement, moisture content and others, the Deputy Commissioner was apprised that elaborate arrangements had been made for the procurement of about 3,28,554 lakh metric ton of Wheat expected in the district this year. As many as 62 mandis/purchase centers have been notified for the procurement of Wheat in the district. DC assured all that any hassles being faced will be dealt with immediate action.
