Road Rage Case against Sidhu : Supreme Court to announce its verdict on May 15
New Delhi, May 14, 2018: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on the Road Rage case related to Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on May 15 .The judgment is expected to be pronounced around 10.30 am tomorrow.
The apex court will decided whether Punjab cabinet minister and celebrity Navjot Singh Sidhu is guilty of killing a man out of road rage 30 years ago.
Sidhu was initially acquitted in the case in September 1999 but
the Punjab and Haryana High Court had convicted Navjot Sidhu and sentenced him for three year imprisonment but he challenged the HC verdict in SC and got stay in 2007..
Sidhu had contended that the man had died of a cardiac arrest and not because he was punched in the head.
If the SC upheld the HC verdict against Sidhu , he stands disqualified immediately as a an MLA even. In that situation even after serving his sentence, he would not be able to contest elections for another six years.
Sidhu had allegedly hit a 65-year-old man, Gurnam Singh, on the head during an argument over the parking of a car in Patiala in December 1988. The police claimed he fled after the attack. Gurnam Singh died in hospital.
