A Total Debt Relief Of Rs 56.81 Crore Provided To Farmers So Far

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar District today provided debt relief certificates to 3578 marginal framers by organizing three functions at sub divisions, Nawanshahr, Banga and Balachaur. A total of Rs. 37 Crore agricultural loan of abovesaid farmers waived off upto Rs. 2 lakh per farmer having land upto two and half acres.
Divulging the details, deputy commissioner, Amit Kumar said here today that these functions were presided over by the political representatives and district officials jointly to forward the benefit to the farming community as per the commitment of Punjab Government.
With the additional waiving off to the tune of Rs. 37 Crore of today, the total amount of the debt relief has gone to 56.81 crores, he added. Earlier a sum of Rs. 19.51 was waived off to benefit 3085 marginal farmers in April this year, he added.
At Balachaur, MLA Ch. Darshan Lal Mangupur and SDM Aditya Uppal presided over the debt relief function while at Nawanshahr (Jadla) ADC (G) Ranjit Kaur and former MLA Guriqbal Kaur handed over the debt relief certificates to the farmers. At Banga, SDM Anamjyot Kaur and District Congress President Satbir Singh palli Jhikki, disbursed debt relief certificates to the farmers.
Deputy Commissioner further said that as many as 2446 farmers of Nawanshahr subdivision have been given the benefit worth Rs18.83 Crore of debt relief scheme. At Banga, debt relief worth Rs 14.51 crores have been given to the 1725 farmers whereas 2398 Balachaur farmers have got waived their loans worth Rs 23.47 Crore, he added.
Deputy Commissioner said that under the debt relief scheme, Punjab Government has waived the loan of marginal farmers availed from Cooperative Societies and in the second phase of the scheme, the cases of small farmers owning 2.5 to 5 acres will be considered. He assured the famers that under the Debt Relief Scheme, the Government is committed to waive off the loan of every eligible farmer and if the name of any eligible farmer has not been enlisted in the list, released by the administration or any farmer having objection, could submit their written application with concerned sub divisional magistrate.
