Labour Minister, Balbir Sidhu at the meeting of State Social Security Board at Chandigarh on Wednesday
Chandigarh, June 13, 2018: All the domestic workers in the state will be registered with the State Social Security Board for availing benefits under various social security and welfare schemes being run by the State Government.
This decision was taken in the maiden meeting of the State Social Security Board for unorganized workers held under the chairmanship of Labour Minister, Balbir Singh Sidhu.
He said that there was no provision for the registration of domestic workers till date, which deprived them benefits of various welfare schemes of state government. Besides, they were subjected to exploitation and maltreatment at the hands of their employers. After registration of the domestic workers with the State Social Security Board, they will be provided a unique identity card which will be linked to their aadhar numbers.
Sanjay Kumar, Principal Secretary, Labour Department said that any domestic worker who has completed 14 years of age would be eligible for the registration. The worker has to furnish his only a self declaration confirming that he is a domestic worker. He said that the complete details of registration process will be uploaded on the labour department website and also be given wide publicity.
The meeting was attended by Kavita Singh, Director Social Security Department, Pardeep Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana, T.S. Dhaliwal, Labour Commissioner and other members of the State Social Security Board.
