"Sukhpal Khaira is dot on target": Kanwar Sandhu
Chandigarh, June 20, 2018:The Leader of Opposition and senior leader of AAP, Sukhpal Singh Khaira has said nothing wrong and those who are targeting him on the issue of the so-called demand of "Referendum 2020" are trying to befool the people of Punjab, the Country and Punjabis settled abroad.
In a press release, former Editor and Kharar MLA, Kanwar Sandhu, said that he stands firmly with Khaira, who had neither supported the demand for "Referendum 2020" for Punjab nor uttered anything against the unity and integrity of the Country. "Those who are trying to tarnish him are those who wear their patriotism up their sleeves. We are for nationalists to the core, yet we don't hesitate to call a spade a spade. People of Punjab have been wronged time and again and all those in Punjab or outside who feel otherwise need to do a reality check and get their mental, political and social equilibrium checked," he said.
He said that on his return from abroad, he was saddened by the statements issued by not just the Congress, SAD and BJP leaders but also some people within AAP. "These people need to go and study the primer of Punjab history and politics and the developments of the last 70 years, especially after 1984. These are the people who caused a polarisation among Sikhs and Hindus, which some of us in AAP are committed to repair. These are the leaders who made thousands of Punjabis flee Punjab," Sandhu said.
Kanwar Sandhu was the the Resident Editor of Indian Express, Hindustan Times, Chandigarh and Managing Editor of Day & Night News TV and Executive Editor of The Tribune before he joined AAP. He was Chairman of the AAP's Manifesto Committee.
He cautioned those within AAP in Punjab, who have been issuing statements to the media without checking facts. "When it comes to the interests of the people of Punjab, we will not hesitate to call a spade a spade," he said. "It is this hypocracy and abandoning of Punjab's interests by some people within the party that cost us dear in Punjab elections in 2017. That will not happen again, whatever it takes," Sandhu said.
