Ahead of 2019 Polls, is Ramoowalia mulling revival of his defunct Lok Bhalai Party?
Chandigarh, July 16, 2018: Former Uttar Pradesh jails minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia is mulling revival of his now defunct Lok Bhalai Party (LBP).
Though the purpose of meeting convened by him at Ludhiana of erstwhile workers of the LBP is aimed at chalking out a programme against drugs problem, yet his ambition to become political active once again his native state is not lost on anyone.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhiana ion July 19, 2018.
Talking to babushahi.com over phone, Ramoowalia said he had decided to make his contribution towards saving the Punjabi youth from the deadly menace of drugs. “I am son of the soil and I can’t see it being destroyed. So I decided to mobilize my old associates to deliberate over starting a campaign against drugs problem,” he said.
When asked, he denied the proposed meeting had any political motive.
The drugs problem in Punjab is there for long yet Ramoowalia’s decision to fight against it at the present juncture raises questions.
His decision to use the former LBP associates in this fight will certainly help him become politically relevant in the state.
Ramoowalia is a veteran leader who knows the art of remaining politically relevant. When he was out of favour in the Akali Dal in which he had merged his LBP, he left political pundits stunned by becoming a minister in Samajwadi Party’s government in Uttar Pradesh.
He is no more a minister after change of political guard there. What he is up to here now, only time will tell.
