DC visits Pong Dam to assess situation, no danger on release of water by BBMB

Hoshiarpur, September 24, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Isha Kalia today said that the District Administration is well prepared to deal with the predicted flood situation but for now the conditions are under control.
On her visit to Pong dam Talwara, the DC said that Pong Dam water is under control and to deal with the predicted flood situation, teams have been constituted from Civil and police departments.
She appealed to the people not to be worried about the rumours of flood and as of now there is no flood like situation in the district.
She said that BBMB will release water on 25th September at 3 o clock but it won't lead to any dangerous situation. She added that release of excess water will be done gradually till 49 cusec.
She appealed to the people of villages nearby beas river to take preventive measures. She asked the officer of BBMB to send reports on daily basis regarding water levels.
Deputy Commissioner also added that there is continuous rain in Himachal also. So, the civil and police departments are on alert to deal with any situation. Teams are roaming in alerted area to inform people not to go on the banks of river and also to avoid grazing cattle there.
She said that teams are continuously monitoring the situation and along with this control rooms have been established which will remain in service for 24 hrs.
The Chief engineer BBMB Mr. Suresh Mathur said that 49 Thousand cusec over water will be released gradually on 25th September at 3 o' clock. He said that this water is released due to over flow of water in the reservoir.
He said that in 2011 also over 70 cusec water was released but no flood like situation was observed at that time. On this occasion SDM mukerian Mr. Aditya uppal and other officers were also present.
