Fatehgarh Sahib, October 16, 2018: Without burning the stubble, the wheat can be sowed in standing stubbles by using Straw Management System ( SMS) with the help of happy seeder even in hard soil and it will not only saves the air pollution, time, energy and money, but also give guaranted more yield per acre. Moreover the decreasing water level can be saved as the wheat is watered by using rain gun just for 40 minutes, said Surjeet Singh Sadhugarh a progressive farmer of the district, while demonstrating direct Sowing of wheat through Happy Seeder at his farm house at Sadhugarh village in the presence of Deputy Commissioner.
He has briefed Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh about the technique and invited him for live demonstration at his farm house, so that the farmers of the State may adopt it and the increasing pollution and decreasing water level the two major challenges can be overcome.
He said that he has not burnt paddy straw since 2006 and constantly practicing resource conservation technology to manage paddy straw produced on his 45 acres farm by using Happy Seeder, which allows direct drilling of Wheat in Standing Stubbles. It not only saves the cost of diesel incurred in tilling the land and also saves water as no pre sowing irrigation is required. It also helps in getting higher yield to the extent of 2 to 2.5 quintals of wheat per acre as the paddy straw which is in the field act as nutrient source and upon decomposition it makes nutrient available to the growing crop. It also acts as mulch to save water and its adoption surely results in economic benefits in terms of reduced input costs, less fertilizer, less irrigation requirement besides helps in improvement of soil organic matter. Appreciating the efforts Deputy Commissioner Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon said that this technology will be transferred to farming community by arranging seminars and live demonstrations.
