Fatehgarh Sahib. December 12, 2018: The major event of the district, annual Saheedi Jor Mela, to be commemorated from December.26 to Dec.28 in the memory of younger Sahibjadas of Guru Gobind Singh, who were bricked alive here by the Mughals for refusing to embrace Islam, would be totally religious in nature and spirit all the wine shops, gambling stalls, dances pandals, circuses, swings and other sources of entertainment has been banned, said Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon, Deputy Commissioner and Alka Meena SSP, while addressing the media persons after presiding over the meeting of district officials called to complete the arrangements here today.
DC said that Govt. has released a special grant for the repair of all the roads, leading to Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib for the convenience of lakhs of devotees, who throng the historical Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib to pay obeisance. He directed the Council officials to complete the construction and repair work by 15th December. He said that carrying of weapons, kirpans, sharp edged weapons have been banned. All the wine shops, Ahatas would remain close from December 26th to 28th with in the 3KM radius of Gurudwara Sahib. No loudspeaker will be allowed in Mela.
DC said that the medical facilities would be available round the clock for the pilgrims, 14 Ambulances will be kept on emergency duty. He said that 24 hours power supply, clean drinking water; 300 temporary and 15 mobile toilet facilities will be ensured. The light and sound program will be shown at Aam Khas Bagh and an exhibition would also be organized. He called upon the pilgrims to maintain the religious sanctity of the Mela.
Alka Meena SSP said that the mela has been divided into five sectors and each sector would be headed by SP rank officer. She said CCTV and drone cameras will be installed to keep a close watch on anti social elements. She said that 51 Nakas, 9 observation posts and 7 police help centers will be set up. She said main traffic for other cities will be diverted through link roads and no vehicle would be allowed in mela. She said that 20 free parking sites will be set up for the convenience of the devotees.
