Fatehgarh Sahib. December.30, 2018: Long queues of voters were witnessed across the district at various polling booths for the elections of sarpanches and panches. The voting turn out in the district was recorded approximately 80 %. In Amloh block 74 %, in Sirhind block 80 %, in Khamano Block82 %, in Bassi Pathana block 80 % and in Khera block 83 %. Despite dense fog, the voters were found exercising their right to vote for electing 295 Sarpanches and 1060 panches out of 427 posts of Sarpanches as 132 Sarpanches and out of 2473 posts of panches 1413 panches were elected unopposed in the district. The Additional District Election Officer Jagwinder JIt Singh Sandhu has suspended Sukhwinder Singh Superintendent ITI Bassi Pathana, who was appointed as Returning Officer in Bassi Pathana, but he refused to join the duty and also urged the others for not doing the duty. When SDM directed him to jin the duty he challenged him do whatever you can. ADEC said on the report of SDM he was suspended and election commission was informed. ADEC said for the polling 367 polling booths were set up and 1835 civil officials along with 900 police personnel and officers were put on duty to supervise 29 most sensitive and 120 sensitive booths in district.
He said no untoward incident of even minor clash was reported in the district.He thanked the rural people and officials for maintaining peace and helping the administration in completing the election process in free and fair manner.
Meanwhile results have started pouring , it was mostly Congress versus Congress in most of the villages and winning candidates were thronging the residence of respective MLAs.
