Chandigarh,January 21,2019: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) and president of Punjabi Ekta Party (PEP) Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Monday shot off a letter to Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, Chairman of SIT on sacrilege urging him to act against those police officials who allegedly harassed innocents based on Zora Singh Commission on sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
"I wish to bring to your notice that on receiving complaints from the residents of village Burj Jawahar Singh Wala (Faridkot) and Panj Garain Kalan (Moga), I visited the areas on 12th January 2019 to record the statements of innocent victims of police brutality. The proceedings to record the statements was conducted in the village Gurudwara Sahib in presence of large number of residents that included the village panchayat and other respectable citizens" stated Khaira in the letter
He said "I was shocked to hear the woes of the victims on the way they were subjected to third degree torture by the police in different police stations, CIA staff premises of many districts and some times in the private residential quarters of police officers in cities like Mansa. It was brought to my knowledge that the said police brutality and torture was inflicted upon them began in December 2015, after the submission of Justice Zora Singh commission report to the government".
Khaira claimed that on perusal of the report, he found that Justice Zora Singh on page 21 of the report gave a "completely erroneous finding" that the police did not interrogate six persons namely Rajwinder Singh a clerk, Subedar Gurjant Singh, Hardev Singh a shopkeeper, Gora Singh a Granthi, Sukhdev Singh Jatana and Ranjit Singh a tailor master, he stated that “they were not thoroughly interrogated nor were subjected to custodial interrogation by the police.
The PEP leader alleged "Justice Zora Singh probably gave the above said wrongful finding to save the actual guilty persons like Bittu a member of the 45 Dera Sacha Sauda committee, who have now made a judicial confession about their nefarious role of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. The police acting upon the wrongful findings of the commission inflicted extreme brutality upon the persons".
Khaira demanded that FIR be also registered against leaders of ruling SAD for allegedly having ordered the brutal torture of those named in the report.
