Gurdaspur , January 23,2019: Central Land Port Authority team led by Chairman Anil K Bham on Wednesday visited Dera Baba Nanak to assess the site for construction of Kartarpur Corridor to connect India with holy Sikh shrine of Darbar Sahib on the Pakistan side.
The team met the local administration and held a detailed meeting regarding the land acquisition and related issues. The team surveyed the area of Dera Baba Nanak to assess the feasibility of land acquisition.
According to the team members, a total of 54 acres of land has to be acquired for the construction of Kartarpur corridor. However the union ministry of Road Transport and Highways had already notified the acquisition of 4 acres of land under Section 3 of National Highways Act few days ago, the remaining 50 acres would also be identified and acquired post surveying and scrutinising the area.
Chairman Bham who led the team informed that the Government of India acknowledge the feelings of the Sikh community and therefore a priority is being given to the construction of the corridor.
“The main purpose of our team to visit the place was to survey the area to acquire the requisite land for the construction of corridor”, said Bham.
Further he said that farmers would be given suitable compensation in lieu of the land that would be acquired for the project.
Talking about the visit of the central team, Vipul Ujwal, Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur said that a report will be prepared by the team mentioning about the exact details of construction of Kartarpur Corridor and related infrastructure and accordingly the area of land that is to be acquired. Then the district administration would acquire the required land.
