Over 147 amputees provided free artificial limbs

Bathinda, 11 February, 2019: Providing support to the individuals who have lost their limbs and help them lead a life of dignity, Guru Gobind Singh Refinery has taken the initiative to provide free artificial limbs in association with Mahavir Seva Sadan (MSS), Kolkata. Today, during the final leg of the mega camp organized at the village Phullokhari, over one hundred thirtybeneficiaries from nearby villages were fitted with the free artificial limbs like Artificial Legs, Calipers, Molded Shoes or Crutch and artificial Hands, etc.
The Refinery Team had earlier conducted awareness drives with the help of village panchayats to identify over 170 needy people in the local villages, out of which around one hundred thirty were found to be eligible. The team of specialist from Mahavir Seva Sadan (MSS, which has been stationed at Phullo khari village for the past one week, took measurements of the patients and developed the artificial limbs in their mobile workshop
Speaking on the occasion, Harak Banthia, CFO, HMEL, said, “Any disability can be life shattering but it should not be a barrier to leading a dignified life. It is our sincere effort to enable to our communities to lead a better life. J S Mehta president MSS told that that MSS is working since last 35 years and have organized more than 250 Free Artificial limbs camps across country and abroad benefitting more than 4 lakh beneficiaries. The programme was also graced with the presence of Vinod Goyal (Coordinator MSS), Dr. V K Newatia (Orthopadeic Surgeon, MSS), and M S chugh, Henri Braun and Ian Thorpe from HMEL.
Sarpanch and members of village panchayat appreciated this noble initiative by Guru Gobind Singh Refinery apart from regular healthcare camps being organized in the local villages.
