Chandigarh, February 22,2019: Former Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini on Friday said that ony politics was being played over the Behbal Kalan and Kotkpura firing incidents and nobody us serious to bring out the truth . Taking a dig over SAD and Congress governments, the ex top cop alleged that no investigation into the Behbal Kalan firing was done for three years.
The former DGP also stated that he shares the pain that the families of two protesters who died at Behbal Kalan had to undergo, "But no efforts were made to provide ease them, rather were were used for political gains" he said.
Further he said that arrest of Inspector General of Police Paramraj Singh Umranangal in the sacrilege incidents at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura was wrong.
Saini said that there were allegations against him that Umranangal and other police officers were sent to Kotkapura by him who attacked the protesters in the area. "The police force was sent from outside as there was absence of sufficient force in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan. Those making such allegations and targeting police force should be ashamed of themselves as the absence of police could have led to major violence" said Saini.
In an interview with News18, Saini said that all the proof of what happened at Kotkapura are present in videos and can be accessed. "Police has gone there only to calm down the situation but due to provocation firing had to be done on orders of a magistrate. However there was no orders for firing in Behbal Kalan" said Saini.
“Meanwhile I would also like to tell that city center scam is altogether a different issue due to which the state suffered major financial losses, Saini added.
