Ferozepur March 11, 2019: To increase the percentage of polling among women, Women Polling Booths will be set up in Ferozepur during the Lok Sabha elections 2019, said Chander Gaind, DEO-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.
Added here, these Women Booths or Pink Booths are known as Dingdi in Mizoram, named after a wild flower commonly available there and Dingdi is used by poets to depict beautiful women. It was during assembly elections last year when pink polling booths came into existence. To woo the women voters, states like Goa and Punjab had come up with polling booths that were decorated in pink colour and were entirely staffed by women.
In Ferozepur, there will be 8 Women Polling Stations two per Assembly Constituency in Four Assembly Constituencies of Zira, Ferozepur Urban Ferozepur Rural and Guruharsahai. The list will be notified after identifying the same, said Chand Parkash, Tehsildar Election
Apart from this, there will also 8 Model Polling Centres (MPC) – two each Assembly Constituency as voters are overwhelmed by the decoration, ambience and facilities available at the MPCs which gives a different look – a contrast to the old fashioned polling booths that were usually set up rickety government schools or community centres, as in addition to basic facilities, one gets comfortable seating arrangements and decoration.
Out of total, 7,08,890 voters as per final publication on 31.01.2019, there are 3,79,463 are male, 3,29,407 female and 20 third gender besides 2,471 service voters in 879 polling stations of 223 in 75-Zira, 76-Ferozepur(U), 77-Ferozepour(R) and 78-Guruharsahai.
