Chandigarh, March 13,2019: Director General of Police of Punjab, Dinkar Gupta has initiated a process wherein many “VIPs” of the state may be left without a security cover.
The step has been taken after Gupta came across the “unauthorized” deployment of police personnel with political leaders and officers.
Gupta also shot off a strong worded letter to the police chiefs of every district in which he questioned the reason for deployment of large number of policemen with these unauthorized persons.
The DGP stated in the letter that the deployment of the police personnel was made by district chief on their own in an unauthorized manner for which permission was also not sought from the headquarters.
“It has come to notice that a large number of police personnel have been deployed on their own by district officers of various ranks, including SHOs, from police lines, police stations, police posts with different individuals in a totally unauthorized manner and without an approval from the security wing,” letter by Gupta stated.
The DGP has also warned the police officials who have deployed these policemen of dire consequences including pay cut if the cover was not withdrawn by March 14.
