Fatehgarh Sahib.March.31, 2019: The flying squad team constituted for checking after implementation of model code of conduct and the district police recovered 25 Kg. gold from a vehicle during joint checking of vehicles at Delhi-Amritsar National Highway being transported to Amritsar on fake documents illegally. The district administration informed the Income Tax department and handed over the case, which is investigating.
Addressing a joint press conference Parshant Kumar Goyal DC cum District Election Officer and Amneet Kondal SSP said that the recovery is enough proof that the flying squad teams constituted on the eve of forth coming Parliament Elections and police are working round the clock efficiently keeping strict vigil.
They said last night the police during a naka in front of Police Station Sirhind on GT Road signalled a private vehicle looking like the cash van number DL-01LR-5747, which supplies cash in Banks, the driver, the security guard belonging to BRING Security Company and other persons could not answer properly and got nervous and during search police recovered 25 Kg. Gold buiscuits. In the meantime SHO Sirhind called DSP and SP (Investigation) Harpal Singh. DC said the consignment documents they were carrying were not matching with their statements. As per papers the consignment was for Amritsar, whereas they told that the gold is to be delivered to a jewwler of Ludhiana moreover the vehicle number mentioned on papers does not match with the vehicle carrying consignment. DC said one of them told that Gold has been brought from Haridwar to Delhi and from Delhi to Ludhiana. DC said it was more surprising that they revealed that they take gold consignment twice a week regularly and how the tax is being evaded.
SSP said it is matter of great concern that if some incident had occurred and looted the police had been held responsible. She said if they take the consignment regularly they should have informed the concerned police of different district.
DC & SSP said from the 10th March since the model code of conduct was enforced the flying squad teams and police has recovered 448 Quintal poppy husk, 6.5 Kg. Opium, 727 Gm heroin,10136 Liter illicit liquor, more than 11000 intoxicant tablets and injections, cash approximately Rs.26 Lakh, other items value worth RS.90 Lakh and this Gold worth Rs.8.5 CRore. They said till today the recovery had been approximately around Rs.9.5 Crore
