Case registered against 30 BJP workers
Etawah, Apr 11 :: Following BJP candidate from this Lok Sabha seat Ram Shankar Katheriya's alleged brawl with an Inspector, a case against around 30 people affiliated to the party, including the leader, was registered at the Bhareh police station in this Uttar Pradesh district.
SSP Santosh Kumar Mishra on Thursday here said that Inspector Geetam Singh was trying to prevent the BJP candidate from holding a rally without permission in the Ram-Janaki temple premises situated at Pathara in the Bhareh area of the district upon which the BJP candidate and his supporters thrashed the Inspector on Wednesday.
Apart from this, they also allegedly looted his mobile phone and tried to loot the Inspector's service revolver.
After a probe into the incident, a case against the BJP candidate including over 30 BJP workers was registered at the Bhareh police station late Wednesday night.
Notably, Mr Katheriya took the same mobile phone from the Inspector in which the latter was trying to capture the leader's indecency. The mobile has not yet been recovered.
The SSP said that the BJP candidate and over 30 of his supporters got into a scuffle with Inspector Geetam Singh and other policemen with him when the Inspector tried to stop them from holding a rally without permission.
On the directions of District Election Officer JB Singh, a team of the police and administrative officers registered a case after inspecting the situation. Bhareh police station in charge Shailendra Kumar has been given the responsibility of the case.
A report regarding the case was also given to the Election Commission by the district administration late night itself.
Reacting to the allegations of thrashing the Inspector, Mr Katheria said "Inspector Geetam Singh tried to insult me and then I tried to put the mobile down. I came again when information regarding the arrest of locals was given but there was no such incident of thrashing the Inspector."
Tent, chairs and other materials from the temple premises have been seized by the police.(Agency)
