Shimla, April 21, 2019: (UNI) The curtains will go up in Himachal Pradesh on a contest between traditional rivals, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress, when the process of filing nomination papers open on Monday with the issuance of the statutory notification.
Polling will be held on May 19 and the results will be announced on May 23, along with the rest of the nation.
A meeting of the representatives of various parties with the Returning officer was held on Saturday in which they were told about the strict enforcement of the model code of conduct to be followed during the elections.
The Returning officer told them to refrain from making communal or derogatory comments against one another and contest the election in a peaceful atmosphere.
There are four Lok Sabha constituencies in the scenic hill state.
The BJP in 2009 won three seats from the state and in 2014, it bagged all the four.
April 29 is the last date for filing of nomination papers. April 27 and 28 are holidays, said an official spokesman.
He said that the scrutiny of the papers would take place on April 30 and the last date for withdrawals is 2 May .
