Jalandhar, April 21, 2019: “The aspirations of youth have changed a lot with changing times and universities today should overhaul their academic structure to meet their expectations” said Dr. R.S.Bawa, Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University during a press conference at Jalandhar. Going beyond the scope of syllabus, today’s youth want to learn latest technologies, prepare themselves for the international standards and wants to become a job provider rather than just being a job seeker, he added. Understanding the expectations and aspirations of today’s youth, Dr. Bawa said, “Chandigarh University Gharuan has contemplated a flexible choice based education system where they can choose from wide range of careers that are offered to them”. With an intention to provide them international exposure, Chandigarh University has tied with 220+ top ranked Universities from USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Israel, EU and others where through the semester exchange programs, summer internships, joint research initiatives and international campus placements the students can prepare themselves for the global industry, Dr. Bawa added.
The Vice-Chancellor added that currently there are more than 10,000 students from Punjab who are studying at Chandigarh University which includes more than 2100 students from Doaba region itself. “The University had set-up a regional office cum counselling center in Ludhiana last year and more than 5000 students from Doaba have taken career guidance from our team of professional career experts which shows that students from the region are well informed about the changing industry expectations and skills that are now available in market” Dr. Bawa added. A team of professionals are available at University Regional Offices at Amritsar, Ludhiana & Bathinda through-out the year to help the students and guide them to choose their career after 10+2 or Graduation. The career counselling facility is available free-of-cost at all the centers in which any matric, 10+2 or graduate student could walk-in for getting professional career guidance for which the student would undergo psychometric test based upon which they would be given Career Advisory Report that would help them to choose their field of interest.
“Students from Doaba region have shown brilliant performance in academics and campus placements 2018” said Chandigarh University Vice-Chancellor, Dr. R.S.Bawa. More than 532 students of Engineering, Management, Mass-Communication, Animation, Bio-Technology, Law and Hotel Management from Doaba region of Punjab have managed to bag 620 offer letters from top notch MNCs like Microsoft, IBM, Google, Amazon, Wipro, Cognizant, Bank of America and others during campus placements. There are more than 56 students from the region who have been selected by multiple companies during campus placements. “Students such as Gurpreet Kaur who is Computer Science Engineering student from Jalandhar has been selected by 6 top notch MNCs which includes Cognizant, L&T, Hewlett Packard, Thought-Works, Wipro and Tech-mahindra” he said. Talking about other students from the region, Dr. Bawa said “Rajat Sharma another CSE student from Kapurthala has been selected by Wipro, Cognizant, IBM, Emmerson and Capegemini”.
Vice-Chancellor informed that students from the state of Punjab are doing excellent work in the field of Research, Innovation and entrepreneurship. In the field of research, out of the total 390 patents filed during last 3 years by the students and faculty of Chandigarh University, 41 patents have been filed by the students from Punjab. The patents filed by students of Punjab included Anti Wheel Theft System for vehicles developed by Mechnical Engineering student, Kunal from Amritsar and automatic notification system has been developed by Gurpreet Singh & Harpreet Singh from Taran Taran which would automatically send alert messages along with GPS location to the 5 number including Ambulance feed in the system in case of road accident of the vehicle.
There has been 16 new start-ups by students of Punjab at Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator (CU-TBI) which have running successfully and hence showing the trait of the students from the state that they have the passion to be a job creator rather than a job seeker. Talking about some of the successful start-ups, Dr. Bawa said, “Computer Science students from Ludhiana have developed Female Security Belt to help and secure women during any sexual assault attempt”. In yet another story of successful venture, Simranpreet has established a company named Smart Bi-cycles which will manufacture Bicycles that are very light in weight due to its single frame structure, added Dr. Bawa.
Chandigarh University also announced academic scholarships worth Rs. 10 crores which will be offered through an All India Scholarship based Entrance Test, CU-SAT (Chandigarh University Scholarship and Admission Test) that would be conducted online in the month of May and June across 19 states. The All India Entrance Test would offer scholarships to more than 800 students in more than 50 Under-Graduate and MBA programs offered at Chandigarh University. In addition, CU will offer 10% academic scholarship to the wards of school teachers and university/college professors of Punjab state as a mark of respect for their contribution towards building strong future for the nation. While the University will continue 5% seats reservation in every course offered at university for the wards of serving/martyred defense personals. The University will also offer academic scholarship upto 25% for the wards of the security/military/para-military forces who will be seeking admission in the various courses offered by the Chandigarh University.
