General Saviour Association celebrates World Hypertension Day at Indus Hospital
SAS Nagar, May 22, 2019: On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, Generation Saviour Association, a nonprofit organizing working in area of public health since 22 years, organized a health checkup camp in collaboration with Indus Hospital where blood pressure of more than 200 people was checked. The special invitee of the day, Dr G B Singh, Assistant Director, Department of Health and Family Welfare Punjab, while addressing the gathering stressed on the need to get ones blood pressure checked regularly. He said, “The best way to be informed about your blood pressure is to check it regularly, by a certified medical practitioner”. Pressing upon the role of diet in hypertension control Dr G B Singh, who also heads the NCD control program said, “Diet modification is an essential step towards controlling hypertension. One should reduce the intake of Tras fat and sodium rich food for a healthy life”.
On this occasion, Opinder Preet Kaur Gill, President of the organization said, “the aim of the health check up camp is to spread awareness about high blood pressure as unmanaged hypertension can lead to a heart attack, stroke, and other problems.” She further added, “Despite the condition being so common, people tend to ignore the common signs and symptoms of hypertension. Almost one-third of people who have high blood pressure aren't aware of the same because high blood pressure often shows no symptoms.”
The theme for this year’s World Hypertension Day is Know Your Numbers with a goal of increasing high blood pressure (BP) awareness in all populations around the world.
