Chandigarh, May 24: During the ongoing wheat procurement season which started officially from April 1, 2019, there has been a bumper crop of wheat in Punjab.
The total wheat arrivals/procurement till date during the current season have surpassed the total wheat arriving/procured in the State during the last 20 years although there are still 1 more day to go with procurement as the season officially ends on May 25,2019, informed an official spokesman of Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Department.
A total of 129.93 LMT wheat, which includes 128.38_LMT procurement by State agencies and 1.55 LMT by private traders, has been procured in the State.
More than Rs. 20013.81 crores payment has been released by the state procuring agencies till May 23, 2019.
The spokesperson said that the lifting of procured wheat from the mandis is going on smoothly. More than 97% of the wheat stock procured by Government agencies has already been lifted in the State. The Department of Food has made arrangements for total procurement of 132 LMT. 8.23 lac farmers in the State have benefited from the procurement of wheat.
