Chandigarh, August 16, 2019: The police claim to have got a vital lead in the sensational murder case of two sisters in Sector 22 here by identifying a person who was present in the house around the time the murder took place.
After going through the recording captured by a CCTV camera, the police have identified the person as Kuldeep Singh, who is a resident of Zirakpur and son of police sub-inspector. He is absconding and his mobile phone is switched off.
Police sources say Kuldeep knew the sisters for the last five years. Neighbours have told the police that they heard noises and shouting from the house where the sisters lived around the time the crime took place.
The sisters, Rajwant Kaur (26) and Manpreet Kaur(29), were found with their throats slit at around 2 pm on August 15. They were living as paying guests on the top floor of house number 2598 for the last one year and were from Balluana in Fazilka. They worked in a private firm in Zirakpur.
Police say the sisters were probably murdered around 5 am and were stabbed multiple times.
When the parents couldn’t reach them on their mobile phones they got worried and asked their relative living in Chandigarh to and go and check on them. When the relative went to the house he found the door locked. He informed the police who found the bodies inside.
After going through the crime scene, police says the women put up a fight before they were killed with a sharp object.
The police say the role of a former boyfriend of one of the sisters can’t be ruled out in the crime though they are looking at other angles too and are questioning family members and friends of the deceased.
The brother of the sisters recently joined as SDO in PUDA.
