SOS Children’s Villages proudly celebrates Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan
Rajpura, August 16, 2019: SOS Children's Villages commemorated our 73rd Independence Day with full pride and enthusiasm on August 15, 2019. On 14-15 August, 1947, midnight, the British rule came to an end in India. This day is celebrated by each and every Indian wherever they are, to remember the great Freedom Fighters and their exceptional sacrifices.
At SOS Children’s Village, Rajpura, Independence Day was celebrated by all the children, mothers and office staff. We were fortuned to have Brigadier Sumit Mehta (VishistSewa Medal) as chief guest along with other eminent personalities Prof. (Dr.), Major (Ex). M. L. Ghai, Captain Sukhjit Kaur Sanewal, Dr. Sarabjeet Singh and Dr. Seerat Jindal to grace the event. The program commenced welcoming our guests by Mr. Anoop Singh (Village Director) followed by Flag Hoisting by chief guest Brig, Sumit Mehta. Our children performed various cultural activities such as drawing, poetry, dance and speeches followed by a very informative and motivational talk by Brig. Sumit Mehta.
After concluding the Independence Celebration, children and mothers tied the ‘RakshaBandhan’ to our guests and office staff which coincidently happened to be on same day. Later, Shri Narinder Shashtri (President, Municipal Council, Rajpura) visited SOS Children’s Village and blessed children with assurance to be helpful ever for this noble cause undertaken by SOS India.
About SOS Children’s Villages of India
The SOS Children’s Villages of India is a non-government non-profit, voluntary child care organization that was established in 1964 and has since been involved in providing orphaned and distressed children a ‘home-like’ environment with a loving mother, brothers and sisters, as well as a home and a villagethrough 32 Children’s Villages across India. Every children's village has 12-15 family homes, with every home consisting of 8-10 children on an average along with an SOS mother. A holistic development including education, nutrition, health and psychological development is taken care of till the children are settled in their lives.SOS India has been working tirelessly to ensure that parentless and abandoned children do not grow up alone and their lives are transformed by its specialized long-term care programme or preventive short-term care programme.
