Saif Ali Khan as Inspector Sartaj Singh in a still from Netflix’s Sacred Games.
Amritsar, August 20, 2019: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has expressed its displeasure at a scene in web series Sacred Games season 2 being shown on Netflix, in which Saif Ali Khan, playing a Sikh, insults the ‘kara’ he is wearing.
In the scene, Saif Ali Khan removes his kara and throws it in the sea.
SGPC Chief Secretary Dr Roop Singh says the ‘kara’ is one of the five symbols of the Khalsa and it has great importance in Sikhism and no one will be allowed to play with the sentiments of Sikhs.
He said actors, performers, writers and directors of any film, drama or web series etc should not hurt sentiments of any religion.
He said that if a character is portrayed as a Sikh, then it should be done only in accordance with Sikh principles, Sikh history and Sikh concerns.
Dr Roop Singh added that this controversial scene should be removed immediately. If it is not removed, legal action will be taken against the producers of the show, he warned.
