In Fazilka district, no body shifted to relief camps
Fazilka, August 26, 2019: In Fazilka District, water of Sutlej has damaged crops in 18 villages with a total affected area of 6,480 acre, while all the habitats are safe. This was disclosed today by Deputy Commissioner Manpreet Singh Chhatwal. He said that now water level is decreasing in affected areas and nobody has to be homeless due to the floods in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Manpreet Singh Chhatwal, who himself is constantly monitoring the situation, said that 18 villages in the district were affected, out of which 10 were in Fazilka and 8 in Jalalabad sub-division. In these villages, only the crops are damaged by the flood water and the population areas are completely safe. He said that the administration has set up 5 relief centers in Fazilka and Jalalabad sub-divisions each and 6 in Abohar sub-division, but nobody has needed shelter in relief camps.
According to preliminary reports, 6480 acre area was waterlogged in the district, he added. He said that Special Girdawari will be done immediately after withdrawal of water. He said that we have also received reports that 21 houses has damaged due to the rain in the district.
Deputy Commissioner said that now priority of the administration is to prevent people from diseases caused due to rainy season. Therefore, health department and animal husbandry teams have been deployed in the villages. He said that seven teams of health department are on the job in 18 villages.
In addition, teams of animal husbandry department are vaccinating animals to protect them from infectious diseases in the affected areas. Vaccination of 3106 animals has been done in the district.
Chhatwal said that the situation in the district is completely under control and now the focus of the administration is to normalize life in the affected areas. He said that all the departments have also been asked to repair the infrastructure, if any damage has happened.
