Rana Sodhi inaugurates Punjab State Games for Boys (Under-18) at SBS Stadium in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, October 20, 2019: Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Cabinet Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Punjab today inaugurated the three days Punjab State Games for Boys (Under-18) – dedicated to Guru Nanak’s 550th Parkash Utsav, at SBS Stadium in Ferozepur.
Addressing a gathering of around 4,000 participants at the inaugural ceremony, Rana Sodhi said, Each player should fulfill his dream with passion and focus but must have ‘Will To Do’. He also administered the pledge to have a sense of discipline towards the games.
He said, “The Punjab government, led by Capt Amarinder Singh, was making every effort to encourage the youth towards sports so that the youth could get rid of disease like drug addiction. He said that now any player who wins Gold Medal will be given Government job at Rs 1 crore and the player who wins Silver Medal will be given Government job at Rs 75 lakh. Similarly, the winner of the Brown Medal (Bronze Medal) will be given 50 lakhs besides free training”.
On this occasion, march past, torch ceremony followed by the cultural program were also presented by the children.
He further said that Punjab Government has reserved 3% of the jobs for sports quota and Maharaja Bhupinder Singh University is being set up in Patiala with all the facilities available for the players including coaching.
He said that at the cost of Rs 6 crore at the back of the stadium, Astroturf Hockey International Stadium is likely to be completed shortly for which the foundation stone was laid and existing swimming pool in Ferozepur would also be modernized soon.
The Cabinet Minister said that we should work hard to achieve our goal no matter what the playground and to achieve the targets in life, first one should have ‘Will To Do’
He said that the players of our country have excelled in boxing, suiting, wrestling, cricket, athletics, handball, and football games and have made our country famous at the international level.
Rana Sodhi said that under Tandrust Punjab Mission, Captain Amarinder Singh has undertaken this mission to give importance to sports so that the players should stay away from drug addiction. He said that no player should think of himself as weak from one another and fulfill his dream with passion and focus. He said that in the coming days, the players like you will brighten the name of our country, so your goal should be to win.
The winning players were also awarded by the Cabinet Minister.
