Nurpur Bedi, 11 December, 2019: Paramjit Singh, a 42-year-old farmer from Nangal Abiyana, Nurpur Bedi, is becoming a source of inspiration for farmers . Moreover he has strengthened his economy with the production of various crops but he has also raised the living standards of farm workers that include 18 women and 10 male labourers. The aisle practices of agriculture left by the farmer after following the cultivation of strawberries, exotic guava, perennial mango, Avocado, dragon fruit, cardamon, wild jalebi, custard apple golden.
He has planted strawberries, dragon fruit and Avocados on 11 acres and 18 acre farms respectively in Nangal Abiana.
He has set new example of planting a special pair of weed kardoos and wild jalebi tamarind in 2 canals. He has started new experiences by planting custard apple golden, Malaysian varieties of shrubs and five kinds of exotic guava weighing each a kilo and perennial mango trees flowering three times a year. Paramjit Singh used to cultivate vegetables before, but later he founded the MK Fruits Company and started his new farm by trying to grow his agriculture and horticulture business, from which he found great success. Horticultural officials have also offered him subsidized medicine, Mulcher and Spray Pumps time to time to promote his profession with the opinion of experts. Today he has a YouTube channel and has CCTV cameras with online monitoring available on his fields. He has 18 women and 10 men working for his field labour, who are paid Rs. 8500 to Rs. 9500 per month directly from his bank accounts. Workers are also allowed to have two holidays without deduction of pay every month.
Paramjit Singh said that one strawberry plant is worth Rs 5 and an acre yields 30,000 saplings. An acre costs a labour of Rs. 1, 40,000 for plantation of saplings. These plants are shipped from California through the agency. A box of about 2kg is easily sold at Chandigarh sector 26 market and Jalandhar mandi for Rs 280 during the peak season. Whereas nowadays, being off season this 2 kg box is being sold for about Rs 700 to Rs 1000. Further he said that for dragon fruit and avocado 400 saplings are planted per acre. These new fruits are popular choices nowadays. One plant costs on average Rs 60 to Rs 120.
Experimenting further, he has ordered 200 shoots of malasyian shrubs. he has also planted five varieties of foreign guava - Thai and Bara Maas mango, where it has five varieties of guava each weighing per kilo. he has also started producing wild herbs,a different variety of tamarind known as wild jalebi which is very effective in treating diabetes. he has also started the production of the Kardoos herb, which is useful in treating liver and kidney. He said that he constantly alerts people against drugs and motivates them to donate blood. Furthermore He himself has donated blood 23 times and graduated from Suri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Paramjit Singh plans to make a big profit in January by planting strawberries on all his 11 acres of land. He said that he gets Arc Baath fertilizer from Barnala with the use of which he gets a good crop.
He said that officials of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department have been trying to make timely camps and thanks the Punjab Government for the support and information received from the experts of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department.
