Senior Badal on Delhi Violence : Climate of fear, insecurity and uncertainty growing in the minority communities of country
Badal expresses "grave anxiety" over deeply disturbing threat to peace, communal harmony and secular values in the country
Secularism bedrock of the nation, peace and communal harmony deserve top priority- Badal
Bathinda March 01, 2020 – Five times Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today expressed “ grave anxiety” over what he called the “deeply disturbing threat to peace, communal harmony and secular values in the country”. Indirectly referring recent violence in Delhi and without naming anyone he said that top priority must be given to restore confidence in the minds of different communities.”
Addressing a massive SAD rally here today, Mr Badal said that the atmosphere in the country in general and the tragic happenings over the past fortnight in Delhi in particular are cause for concern. He said that governments in the states and at the centre must direct all their energies first of all towards improving communal relations and preserving peace and harmony among different communities.”
The former CM called upon the state and the Union governments to take definite steps to win the confidence of the minorities in the country as, he said , “ there is a growing climate of fear, insecurity and uncertainty in the minds of the members of the minority communities.”
Asking "every single Akali worker to be an ambassador of peace and communal harmony as taught to us by the great Gurus" Mr Badal said that that would be our tribute to their legacy.

The former CM also blasted the “ party deserters” who had stabbed the very party in the back which had bestowed unprecedented favours and honours on them. “SAD gave the highest honours to people like Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and others despite a long series of their electoral defeats. They should have acted with greater wisdom, responsibility and loyalty to the party. “ The Akali supremo said that these ‘deserters” would one day “repent their wrong doing. Unless they undo their mistake, they will just add to the list of leaders whom the history has either doomed or forgotten. ”
Referring to their claim that they wanted to strengthen Akali values, Badal said, ”You do not strengthen a family by joining hands with its enemies. Everybody can see the lure that attracted these leaders away from the party. They will be used and thrown away. That day they will remember my words.”
Mr Badal described secularism as ” the bedrock on which India as a nation stands” and said that the Founding Fathers had always considered it as a glue that binds people of diverse backgrounds, religions, languages and cultures in our country together.”We must build a strong India through an approach based on a genuine mutual respect and understanding among different communities. “
The Akali stalwart lashed out at the Congress party which had betrayed even leaders like Mahatma Gandhi in going ack on the assurances given by him to the Sikh community. He referred to Gandhiji’s statement in which the Mahtama had said that if the Congress betrayed the Sikhs on the promises made to them, “this would spell doom not only for the Congress party but for the country at large”. Mr Badal said that Captain Amaridner Singh was only walking in the footsteps of his predecessors in the Congress party in going back on sacred promises made to the people.
