Chandigarh, March 27, 2020: In what would come as a major relief for people of Punjab, the state government has decided that passes, which allowed people to travel during curfew/lockdown, will now be issued by a Tehsildar instead of the DC, who used to issue it earlier.
As the DC is usually not accessible at all times, it became difficult for people who wanted to travel urgently owing to some emergency, to get a pass in time. So, the Punjab government delegated the power to issue passes to a Tehsildar.
Another development which will ease inter-state travel of pass-holders is the decision of Haryana government to honour passes issued by governments of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and the union territory of Chandigarh.
This will facilitate movement of people and essential goods through the state.
