Covid-19 Impact: Railway ticket refund rules relaxed
Ferozepur, March 31, 2020: In the wake of Covid-19, all passengers trains have been cancelled and it has impact on various issues including the railway ticket refund rules.
In order to further facilitate rail passengers in availing facility of refund of tickets along with ensuring avoidance of crowded and practice social distancing, the refund rules for counter generated tickets have been relaxed as a special case as follows:
1. For trains cancelled for journey period 21.03.2020 to 21.06.2020, refund across counter can be taken on submission of ticket up to 3 months from date of journey.
2. When train is not cancelled but passenger does not want to perform journey –
a. TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) can be filed within 3 months from date of journey at the station.
b. TDR can be submitted to Chief Claims Officer/Chief Commercial Manager (Refunds) for getting refund with 60 days of filing of TDR, subject to verification from Train Chart.
c. For passengers who want to cancel tickets through 139 can get refund across the counter within 3 months from date of journey.
d. Passengers who have already cancelled their tickets for the journey period 21.03.2020 to 14.04.2020 can apply for a refund of the balance amount to CCO/CCM(Refund)in the prescribed format within 6 months of cancellation of a ticket for which refund of remaining amount is sought.
3. All rules for e-tickets remain the same as the passenger does not need to come to the station for a refund of the ticket. The balance refund amount if any shall be credited to the Bank account of passengers from which e-ticket was booked.
