Mohali, April 6, 2020: Two elderly women, who became famous on social media a few days back after a video in which they are seen arguing with policemen who are trying to take them to Max hospital Mohali for check-up, have tested negative for coronavirus and discharged from Fortis Hospital here today.
Gurdev Kaur (69) and Resham Kaur (74) from Ilford, a town in east London, England, had come to India to pay obeisance at gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
They were staying in Mohali when policemen came to their house to take them for check-up which is mandatory for every Non-Resident Indian travelling to India.
The women refused to be taken to Max Hospital, Mohali, which is a Government of Punjab-designated coronavirus treatment institution and insisted on going to PGI, Chandigarh.
The women created a scene on the road in front of their house and all this was recorded by a policeman and later the video went viral on social media.
On seeing that they were adamant on going to PGI, the women were taken there but could not be admitted to PGI. From there they were taken to Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali and admitted there. Later, they were shifted to Fortis Hospital, where they tested positive for coronavirus.
Although they are now coronavirus negative and have been discharged from Fortis Hospital, they are undergoing mandatory 14-day quarantine there.
