COVID-19: Railway resumes parcel trains to transport essential goods
Ferozepur, April 7, 2020: The Indian Railway is playing an important role during the threat of pandemic COVID-19, in service of the nation, almost in every field and as per instructions issued by Railway Board, for transportation of essential commodities during lockdown period, the Time Tabled Parcel Special Trains have been introduced from various destinations, which meets the needs of bulk transportation said DRM Rajesh Aggarwal adding that the decision to run special trains will help in the movement of essential items, as after airlines, railways is the fastest mode of interstate transportation of such goods.
In order to fill the vital need of transportation of essential commodities, DRM said, the Firozpur Division has also run Time Tabled Parcel Special Train from Ludhiana to Bandra Terminus. This Time Tabled Parcel Train will run on April 8, 10, 13 and 15. Special Parcel Trains (minimum 5VPU+1SLR) can be arranged by Firozpur Division on the demand of willing parties. In its first phase, it has already completed its run on April 1, 3 and 6. This train will run via Riwari, Palamlpur and Ahmedabad and the parties from Punjab interested to send their goods to these satiations can avail the facility.
Essential commodities which are perishable and had very limited shelf-live, used to be transported through road and the railway seeing this problem, has taken a decision to transport the goods through good trains and certain trains have been allotted to Ferozepur Division, said DRM.
Another important train is likely to run between 9-15 April, on the route of Amritsar to Howarah via Saharanpur, Muradabad and Lucknow and those interested to send their goods from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana can book their goods accordingly, he added.
He said, more parcel trains Delhi to Jammu Tavi via Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Pathankot and back from 9 to 15 April and two trains Amritsar to Hyderabad and Ferozepur to Mumbai parcel trains.
