Congress comments on DSGMC issue are because of ignorance: SAD
Chandigarh 20 Nov (babushahi.com bureau): The Shiromani Akali Dal ridiculed the statement of the Union minister of state for External Affairs minister Preneet Kaur and other Congress leaders on DSGMC issue and said that it is pity on the Congress leaders that they don’t understand the nature and basic structure of these bodies. It appears from the statement of the Congress leaders that what to talk about DSGMC, they are not even aware of the working of the SGPC as well. In a statement released from the party head office here today, the party Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema told the Congress leader that both the SGPC and DSGMC are democratic institutions constituted by various acts of the Parliament and are governed by the members elected by Sikh Sangat. Neither SGPC is under the control of the Punjab government nor DSGMC is under the direct control of Delhi government. He said that the role of the state governments of Punjab as well as of Delhi is confined to conduct of free and fare elections of these bodies. No state government is authorised to recommend any change in the act until and unless it is approved by two third majority of the SGPC as per the Nehru-Tara Singh pact. Cheema further said that the amendment recommended by the Delhi government to the Centre for DSGMC act 1971 is a conspiracy hatched in connivance with Sarna brothers with the sole aim of circumventing the judgement of the honourable Supreme Court in which the latter has directed the Delhi government to hold elections to general house of DSGMC by December 31 positively. He questioned the locus-standi of the Delhi government on recommending such an amendment without consulting various sikh bodies and institutions. He said that Delhi government has explanation for this unwarranted and illogical decision.
The SAD Spokesman also reminded the Congress leaders that in the year 2011 a meeting of the various sikh bodies contesting DSGMC elections was called by the sikh affairs minister in the Sheila Dikhshit government Mr. Arvinder Singh Lovely in which certain suggestions were made for the formation of the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission on the pattern of the SGPC and second was to ensure time bound and regular election of the executive committee of the DSGMC. But the Delhi government ignored both the recommendations and brought a self styled unique amendment about direct election of the post of the President which was never approved by any of the sikh organisation. In the end, Dr. Cheema asked the Congress leaders to refrain from issuing illogical and unwarranted statements without understanding the basic structure of DSGMC and SGPC.
