Ground breaking ceremony of Kirshna temple at Islamabad H-9 sector, organized by Hindu Panchayat Islamabad on June 23, 2020.
It will be first ever temple in Islamabad. The govt through CDA provided 4 canals of land for construction of temple.
Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad had approved the allocation of a half-acre plot of land in Sector H-9 of the capital for a Hindu temple, community centre and cremation ground in the federal capital in 2016.
It was a longstanding demand of the Hindu community which has finally been fulfilled.
There are around 800 Hindus living in Islamabad, and in the absence of a temple, they were forced to celebrate Diwali and other religious festivities at home.
Hindu lawmaker LAL MALHI , Member National Assembly of Pakistan who was present at the ceremony said that It will be first ever temple in Islamabad since centuries.
There is another historical Krishna Mandir situated between between Rawalpindi Railway Station and Kabari Bazaar in Saddar which has been the only place of worship for Hindus.
According to DAWN , the temple was built in 1897 by Kanji Mal and Ujagar Mal Ram Rachpal to serve as a street temple for people from its surrounding areas. After partition, the temple became the main place of worship for Rawalpindi Hindus who chose to remain in Pakistan.
