Amritsar, July 1, 2016:
EcoAmritsar, an Amritsar based initiative of Washington based EcoSikh, will host several activities to mark the 439th anniversary of Amritsar’s foundation.
The city was established by the fourth Sikh Master, Guru Ram Dass and came to be known as Chak Ram Dass. This year many program have been planned by various organizations for celebrations.
Four years ago, Eco Amritsar started the celebration of Amritsar Foundation Day. The effort was to engage residents and stakeholders of the city to take pride and responsibility to make the city sustainable and green.
According to a statement issued by the Eco Sikh, this year’s celebration will start with a procession in which interfaith leaders, city officials, students, residents, environment and sanitation teams will take part. The procession will start at 6 AM from Santokhsar and will culminate in a public meeting at the historic Ram Bagh where various civic and interfaith leaders will join.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is planning special observations at the Golden Temple. Kirtan on July 2 will be dedicated to this day in addition to special plantation drive at all historical sites under its governance.
A special discourse ( katha) on July 1 and July 2 will be attributed to the 439th year of the city. NCC, schools, colleges, business houses, NGO’s, malls and media houses are also planning events for the day. Bhai GurIqbal Singh with his large following in the city is planning special events to mark the day. Pingalwara is having a special plantation ceremony and its head, Dr. Inderjit Kaur will join the march. Big FM is partnering the audio media space enthusiastically.
