Auckland, April 27, 2017: (By Harjinder Singh Basiala) Winner of four gold medals at World Masters Games, Mata Man Kaur (101) of Chandigarh was felicitated at Henderson Police Station here.
She was presented Lifetime Achievement award by the organization “I Am He Her” whose founder Sarika Mohammad conducted the stage.
In her brief address, she thanked everybody for the honour and warm welcome accorded to her. She gave tips on healthy eating and blessed all those present. She also sang a devotional song.
The event was organized by Mandeep Kaur, the first Indian-origin woman police official in New Zealand.
Prominent persons from the Indian community here were also present.
Mata Man Kaur’s son Gurdev Singh (79) accompanied her. He has also won two bronze medals at the games. He shared a brief account of his mother’s love for sports and her food.
New Zealand Police department honoured her for participating in the games. The police officials included Rakesh Naidu, Mandeep Kaur Sidhu, Baljit, Amninder Singh, Willey Fenny, Shirley Freeman and others.
The police officials called her as a role model.
