Sikh leadership fiasco on the controversial Nanak Shah Fakir movie
New Jersey, April 14, 2018: In and around early 2016 Harinder Sikka approached the Akal Takhat Jathedar to get permission to make a movie on Guru Nanak Sahib. Not only did he get written permission from the Jathedar but continually showed them sections of the movie as it was made in the past two years, while getting their continued approval, said American Sikh Council (ASC) in an emailed statement.
Even the title of the movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ was taken out from a book called ‘Satyarth Parkash’ written by Dayanand Sarswati (aka Mul Shankar) a rabid Hindu Gujarati who was an anti-Sikh and actually mocked Guru Nanak Sahib in his vile writings in 1875. Furthermore, Sikka claimed that ‘Guru Nanak Sahib’ came to him in a dream for week continuously and used the same ruse to convince the dimwitted Jathedars and his cohorts to get permission to produce the movie, alleged the ASC.
The Sikh advocacy group also alleged that the Secretary of the Akal Takhat, Roop Singh and others had even alerted and ordered administrators of all schools in Punjab to screen the movie and show it to the children. The entire movie is slanted towards myths and miracles while clearly deviating from the message from the Guru Granth Sahib, showing Guru Nanak Sahib in very poor light.
Now after two years when the movie was ready to be released on April 13, 2018. The trailer which is barely 2-3 mins long gives a startling view of the actual movie. The religious subtleties are nuanced and
only trained eyes with a reasonably good understanding of the Guru Granth Sahib cleave the issues which make this movie so demeaning, as it Hinduizes the true message of Guru Sahib by making Sikhs look like idol worshippers and believers in miracles!
“The people directly responsible for this enormous blunder are the Jathedar and his cohorts at the Akal Takhat and since they knew of the situation all along, not only should they be taken to task and punished for their asinine decision to approve the movie, but should be removed and pay for any losses incurred by the producer of the movie. The Jathedars have insulted and embarrassed the Sikh community and need to publicly apologize and remove themselves from further humiliation,” alleged the ASC.
The ASC demanded that this movie should be banned immediately and in the future no movies should ever be allowed to be made of any of the Gurus or the Sahibzadas. Screening this movie will send the wrong message to the Sikh and non-Sikh community, further muddling and confusing the public.
