Gurdaspur, July 10, 2019: In a non-descript village of Gurdaspur district a love story which has the ingredients of love, drugs, honesty, sacrifice and will power has come to light.
A young man named Malkiat Singh, a hardcore drug addict, and resident of Sandal village met Natlie alias Natasha, a girl living in Denmark through social media. They chatted frequently and over a period of time fell in love.
Before things could progress, Natlie got to know about the drug-taking habit of Malkiat. Instead of leaving Malkiat, Natlie decided to help her lover leave the habit and to do that she landed in India. After sometime they got married and now Malkiat has given up drugs.
“Men of Punjab are clear-hearted and honest. At the beginning when we started knowing each other, Malkiat disclosed to me that he was a drug addict. He could have lied but he didn’t. There and then I decided that I would help him get rid of his habit,” said Natlie.
Once she got here, Natlie took Malkiat to Siberia for treatment. But things didn’t work out so they returned to Gurdaspur and got married. Later, Malkiat was admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre where he is undergoing treatment at the moment. They are planning to move abroad once Malkiat’s treatment is over.
Dr Ramesh Mahajan who is treating Malkiat says he was addicted to heroin and other drugs but now he is free of his habit and very soon he will be leaving the centre.
